Ep.37 | 5 Minute Drill | The One Thing You Must Do When You Make a Sacrifice

Did you know your brain can’t distinguish between your good habits and bad ones? You’re the only one responsible for putting the “good” and “bad” labels on them. Your brain just wants automation. It just wants to do.

And you know – creating new habits is HARD. But what if it’s the only way to get what you truly want?

It takes a LOT of something that the middle average HATE to hear…

DISCIPLINE.

But what if you can make your brain work for you when it comes to creating good habits and staying disciplined?

You can.

In today’s 5-Minute Drill, J.R. talks discipline and shares a strategy around habits that will help you get what you want.

Without self-discipline, you lose focus. Without focus, you’ll NEVER reach your goals – for your career, relationships, and LIFE.

Let J.R. help you help your brain automate the GOOD habits.

LET’S GET IT!

[00:01 – 06:23] Good vs. Bad Habits and Their Causes

  • Stress and fatigue as a trigger
  • Having goals to stay on track and be more disciplined
  • What’s up with our brain when our habits kick in?

[06:24 – 14:38] What’s The Drill?

  • Part 1 – Scan all the areas of your life.
    • Ask yourself: where is there a habit that’s not serving me…that’s not getting me closer to my goals and dreams?
    • Another way of looking at this is thinking about “what habit is leading me to regret?”
  • Part 2 – Identify the reward you’re after.
    • Write out EXACTLY what you want to learn from this mentor, and, preferably, in the order you want to learn it.
    • Do not overthink it. Keep it simple.
  • Part 3 – Identify what’s triggering the behavior.
    • Replay the last few instances of you doing the behavior or habit you don’t want.  When do you have the urge to do the behavior you don’t want to do?
      • Was it a certain time of day?
      • A certain place?
      • A certain feeling or emotion?
      • The presence of a certain someone?
      • Another habit or behavior?
      • A combination of all or some of these?
  • Part 4 – Identify what new behavior you’re going to stack on top of the old one.
    • Because our brains discount everything, your reward should be as immediate as possible – the less immediate, the bigger it needs to be.

[14:39 – 19:56] Wrapping Up!

  • What’s coming up on the next episode
  • Final words
