How to Get the Athletes in Your Home Talking More to You

Try This Proven Strategy When You're Tired of the Same Old Yes and No Answers

Have you ever been so frustrated with your athlete because you had to ask them over and over to do something? Do you feel like a nag most of the time?

Get excited!…because today I’m sharing the strategy that’s been SHIFTING lives and relationships inside sports families.

I came up with this strategy after STRUGGLING to get my baseball-obsessed son to listen to me. With anything baseball-related, his listening skills were on point. But with school, chores, or anything in between, I wondered if he was deaf. Anything I said seemed to go in one ear and out the other.

After doing some research on Dr. Thomas Gordon’s Parent Effectiveness Training, my eyes were wide open. I learned that it takes kids seven (yes, seven!) times to hear what us parents are saying for the first time.

There was something about that “7” that stuck with me. So, I tried an experiment with my son based on what I knew about influence in high-performance and effective communication in business.

My experiment worked. So, I started trying this out with my clients who were teen athletes and 20-something college athletes. It worked.

Then, I had parents role play this strategy in one of my workshops…and light bulbs started going off with them.

Now, it’s your turn. Give it a try for at least two weeks. Then, let me know how it goes!
